January 22nd, 2012

Drama I, Drama II, and Technical Theater I (5th period only):  This week we will continue with our Essential Question:  “What are the six elements of theater?” by examining different versions of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet  as well as by continuing to perform our blank scene.  Make sure you know your lines and are ready to perform.

Drama III-IV:  This week you will continue to prepare the Taming of the Shrew scenes and monologues.  Remaining Drama III students will present their monologues on Monday.  During the week, we will examine different versions of the scene and manipulate it using the “Theater Lab” technique.  Memroize your lines!

Technical Theater I-III (7th Period):  On Monday, all Project Outlines and Sketches are due.  We will spend the week working on Into the Woods production tasks.  Tech I students will complete a skills review including woodworking and painting.  Your first Work Log will be due Friday.

Drama I / Drama II / Technical Theater I (5th Period):  We will continue our unit on Elements of Theater using Blank Scenes and Romeo and Juliet to explore the elements of theater.  Continue updating your notebook.  [See your respective course pages for Notebook entries.]

Drama III-IV:  We will use The Taming of the Shrew to explore the Elements of Theater.

Technical Theater (7th):  We will divide into production teams and develop work plans for our first round of Into the Woods production tasks.  You will submit your first work log on Friday.

January 10-14 – Welcome Back!

All students must have a single-subject notebook for Drama class.  The notebook will be checked once per six weeks.  AVID students may use a section of their binder.  I will not accept loose leaf work.

Drama I-IV:  All performance-based courses will spend the first week exploring Elements of Theater; Essential Questions – What is Theater?  Why do people make and attend Theater?

Technical Theater I:  We will quickly cover the Elements of Theater, and then move on to Elements of Design; Essential Questions – What is Theater?  Why do people make and attend Theater?

Technical Theater I-III (7th Period):  We will review our essential safety and skills and then begin analyzing our production tasks for Into the Woods; Essential Question – How do I analyze a play for production?

Drama I:  This week you will have an Improvisation Performance Assessment to wrap up our Improv Unit.  Assessments will be Wednesday through Friday.

Drama II:  This week you will do your final scene study performance.  Assessments will be Wednesday through Friday.

Drama III-IV:  It’s show week!  We will have rehearsals during class time.  Our after school schedule is:  Wednesday 3:30 – 5:30 (B Cast); Thursday – 3:30 – 5:30 (A Cast) / Dinner / 7:00 Show; Friday – 3:30 – 5:30 (B Cast) / Dinner / 7:00 Show

Technical Theater I:  Self-selected texture painting projects will be finished on Monday and critiqued on Wednesday.  On Thursday and Friday, we will begin reviewing for the mid-term exam.

Technical Theater II-III:  We will finish projects for It’s a Wonderful Life this week as well as continue working on the A/V Relocation project.  On Thursday and Friday we will review for the mid-term exam.

It’s A Wonderful Life – December 15-16

The Advanced Drama III-IV class (with technical support from Technical Theater II-III) presents It’s a Wonderful Life – A Radio Play by Joe Landry based on the screenplay by Frank Capra on December 15-16 at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are $5.00, but Drama Students and Kell Faculty +1 are free.  Students who need to make up the Pride and Prejudice critique assignment from October should plan to attend.  Critiques will be due on Monday, December 19.

Drama I – We will continue to learn improvisation this week including several new platforms.

Drama II – You will rehearse your scene project as well as do a critique assessment.

Drama III-IV – We will rehearse for It’s a Wonderful Life.  Costumes are due on Monday.  Also, we have an after school rehearsal on Wednesday from 3:30 – 6:00.

Technical Theater I – We will critique last week’s marble textures and reprime our lumber for the last project.  This week, you will select a texture to recreate in paint.

Technical Theater II-III – We will finish preparations for the sound relocation as well as construct set pieces for It’s a Wonderful  Life and Into the Woods.

Into the Woods Auditions – November 28-30 / Meeting December 1

Those auditioning for Into the Woods should go to the Chorus Room immediately after school on Monday.  We will have our first round of vocal and reading auditions.

Initial callbacks will be held on Tuesday.  Callbacks may also be held on Wednesday. 

The Crew list will be posted on Wednesday.

The Cast list will be posted on Thursday at the latest.

 

There is a mandatory initial cast and crew meeting immediately following school on Thursday.

Welcome back!

Drama I – This week we will continue learning improvisation skills including our first platforms.

Drama II – You will continue working on your scene projects from Crimes of the Heart.  Students participating in the Fine Arts Holiday Extravaganza should be prepared to rehearse on Tuesday.

Drama III-IV – We will set up our props and sound on Monday and spend the remainder of the week rehearsing It’s a Wonderful  Life.

Tech I – After critiquing your wood and brick work, you will learn how to create two different marble textures.

Tech II-III – We will work on projects related to the Fine Arts Extravaganza, the Sound Board Relocation Project, and It’s a Wonderful Life.
