Advanced Acting (Acting I-IV)
Welcome to the Advanced Acting page. Here you will find the course syllabus as well as a weekly list of assignments.
Week of November 9-13: We will begin working with scenes from All’s Well That Ends Well (Acting I/III) and Macbeth (Acting II/IV). You will complete several scene analysis activities as well as review blocking and promptbooks. Continue working on your monologues for your final performance of those pieces next week.
Week of November 2-6: Both sections will present short selections from their monologues. Acting I and II students should select an 8 line cutting. Acting III and IV students must present at least 16 lines. Students will be given their scene assignments.
Week of October 26-30: Both sections will begin the unit on Shakespeare by analyzing and speaking sonnets and then moving on to monologues from two of his plays. Acting I/III will perform selections from All’s Well That Ends Well. Acting II/IV will work on pieces from Macbeth.
Week of October 19-23: Black Day (Acting II/IV) – The Fox Hunt scenes will be performed on Wednesday, October 21. On Friday, you will begin working on Shakespearean Sonnets. Copper Day (Acting I/III) – All About Eve will be performed on Thursday, October 22. Both classes will see Macbeth on Tuesday. Promptbooks are due with performances.
Week of October 12-16: Black Day (Acting II/IV) – The Fox Hunt scenes will rehearse. Permission slips for the October 20 in-school field trip are due. Copper Day (Acting I/III) – We will not meet on Wednesday due to testing. We will rehearse All About Eve on Friday and give final performances on Thursday, October 22.
Week of October 5-9: In addition to working on The Fox Hunt and All About Eve, we will discuss Widows in preparation for the Theater Review due on October 13-14.
Week of September 28-October 2: We will continue to work on The Fox Hunt (Black Days) and All About Eve (Copper Days). However, we will spend most of our time assisting the Technical Theater class in working on the set and technical components of Widows. Acting I/III students will also work on video production for “Slaughterhouse” with the Video Production class.
Week of September 21-25: This week we will begin preparing our first acting projects The Fox Hunt (Black Days) and All About Eve (Copper Days). In addition, we will work on Short Skill Scenes/Blank Scene Writing, Emotional Expressiveness, and review Stage Movement and Promptbook Symbols. [Note: Class was cancelled on September 22-23]
Week of September 14-18: This week you will finish preparing your Silent Movie Pantomimes and present them for a grade. Also, the Copper Day class will have final rehearsals of “The Ballad of Sweeney Todd” in preparation for our performance on Thursday!
Week of September 7-11: We will work on principles of Pantomime. You will also develop your Silent Movie Pantomime idea.
